To download the Handpoint App onto your smartphone, search for "Handpoint" in your app store and the Handpoint's app should be at the top of the list. If you don't have an account with your phone's app store, making one is your first step.

When you open the Handpoint app for the first time, a login passcode must be created. This passcode will be used to log into the Handpoint App. The passcode can be changed at any time under "settings" in the Handpoint App.

The shared secret is a unique key shared between your app and the card reader which prevents potential hackers from connecting to your payment terminal. This unique key should have been sent to your personal email address in a text file.

In order to activate your app with the shared secret you need to open the text file through the email client on your smartphone or tablet.

Note : If you are using an Android device it is necessary to completely close and log out of the Handpoint app before activating the shared secret.

Activating the shared secret is simple:

1. Open the e-mail from Handpoint, click and hold the file attached for few seconds and choose to open the attachment in the Handpoint app.
2. The app will prompt:
   • "Do you want to activate your shared secret?“ (android) Choose "OK".
   • "shared secret saved“ (iOS)
3. Log into the Handpoint app with your four digit passcode to finalize the activation.

The next step is to connect your card reader to your smartphone / tablet. You only need to do this once. After that, the two devices will connect automatically when the Handpoint app is running (as long as the card reader is turned on).

iPhone / iPad devices

1. Make sure bluetooth is turned on.
2. Go to the menu screen of the app and select Connect.
3. In the upper right corner select Discover. Your device will now search for the card reader.
4. Select your card reader from the list.
5. Select Pin Pad.

Android devices

1. Make sure bluetooth is turned on.
2. Go to the menu screen of the app and selectConnect.
3. Select Bluetooth Settings.
4. Select your card reader from the list.
5. Your device will ask you if you are sure you want to pair the devices, selectPair.

To initialise the card reader you need to start your first transaction. right after initiating a sale the reader will update its software and configuration.

1. Enter an amount onto the payment screen on the Handpoint app and press Pay.
2. The card reader will now start to update itself. This process can take one to two minutes depending on the internet connection.

The connection between the app and the reader will be lost during this update process. The connection will be re-established when the next transaction is made.
